Our popular Model 73A SCSI Crate Controller has filled the need for an economical solution for controlling CAMAC instruments at CAMAC maximum speeds. Now with the Adaptec USB2XCHANGE adapter the Model 73A can operate from a computers high speed USB 2.0 port. No jumpers or switches are required for the USB setup. The USB to SCSI electronics is housed in a sleek SCSI connector hood making an easy connection of the Model 73A to PC’s and laptops. Jorway supplied software enables USB Plug and Play operations to identify the Model 73A as a valid USB device. All Model 73A and CAMAC operations such as block transfers are supported as they are with the normal SCSI connection. Adaptec software may also be used with other general purpose SCSI peripherals.
** With a suitable high speed processor, Pentium 200 MHz or higher with a 2.0 USB port, block transfer rates for 24 bit transfers should approach 3 megabytes/ second for long transfers (1 K blocks or larger) with the Model 73A as the sole USB device.
The USB2EXCHANGE adapter consists of a 1 meter cable with a male SCSI II 50 pin high density connector at one end and a USB type A connector on the other. USB to SCSI electronics is contained within the SCSI connector hood. Power is generally derived from the SCSI termination power. However, if this is not available the adapter automatically switches to the USB power. Should neither be available the adapter contains a power connector for a separate power supply ( not provided ).
